Beauty of the City - יופי העיר

Friday morning I went into the centre of Melbourne. My aunt was very kind and gave me a lift to Richmond, where she works, and then helped me get on the train into the city centre. There I got off at Flinders Street station which is famous for the multitude of clocks at the entrance.

בשישי בבוקר הלכתי אל מרכז מלבורן. דודה שלי טובת הלב הקפיצה אותי לריצ'מונד, שם היא עובדת, ועזרה לי לעלות על הרכבת למרכז העיר. ירדתי בתחנת פלינדרז, המפורסם בזכות שלל השעונים בכניסה.

and I saw the famous (in our family at least) Young & Jackson pub.

ואז ראיתי את פאב יאנג & ג'קסון המפורסם (לפחות במשפחה שלנו).

Then I strolled down to the Yarra River,
אז טיילתי במורד נהר היארה,

where I saw the black swan in its natural habitat
שם ראיתי את הברבור השחור בסביבתו הטבעית

and a bunch of seagulls who were fighting ferociously for chips.
וחבורת שחפים שרבה בפראיות על צ'יפס.

Also the plant life around the Yarra was beautiful!
גם הצמחייה סביב הנהר הייתה מדהימה!

In Federation Square the poor Australians were deluding themselves and the public that Christmas is a winter holiday. It's not, there is no need for fake snow, winter decorations and Christmas lights.
בכיכר המרכזית האוסטרלים המסכנים ניסו לעבוד על עצמם ועל הציבור שחג המולד חל בחורף. הוא לא בחצי הכדור הדרומי, אין צורך בשלג מזויף, קישוטי חורף ואורות חג המולד.

I then continued with my original plan of taking the City Circle Tram which circumnavigates Inner Melbourne, but two stops in I had had enough of the crowd and noise so I got off, not completely knowing where. As luck would have it I found myself near Treasury Gardens where I saw some wonderful and dozy ducks
אז המשכתי עם התכנית המקורית שלי שלי לקחת את חשמלית העיר המעגלית, שסובבת את מרכז מלבורן, אבל אחרי שני תחנות נמאס עליי האנשים והרעש אז ירדתי, למרות שלא ידעתי בדיוק איפה. התמזל מזלי ומצאתי את עצמי ליד גנים הנקראים גני האוצר (טרז'רי גרדנז), שם ראיתי ברווזים ישנונים ונפלאים

and a gorgeous flower near a fountain of peace.
ופרח יפהפה ליד מזרקה של שלווה.

Near that was also a JFK memorial.
ליד גם היה אנדרטה לג'ון קנדי.

 I also encountered a real live magpie, but he didn't stay still enough for a picture and I had to change batteries in my camera too. From Treasury Gardens I continued east to Fitzroy Gardens where I did manage to get a picture of a magpie-lark.
 גם פגשתי עקעק, אבל הוא כל הזמן היה בתנועה ולא הספקתי לצלם אותו לפני שהייתי צריך להחליף סוללות במצלמה. מהגנים האלו המשכתי מזרחה אל גני פיצרוי, שם הצלחתי לצלם ציפור דומה.

 

Inside Fitzroy Gardens there is a Conservatory filled with beautiful flowers and this great statue:
בגנים יש חממה מלאה בפרחים יפים ובפסל החמוד הזה:

 Near the Conservatory there is Cook's Cottage, and hearing the words "it's free" being said I ventured inside.
ליד החממה יש את בקתת קוק, ובשמעי את המילים "זה בחינם" נכנסתי פנימה.

It is quite a lovely, quaint, little place and all the furniture inside was authentic 18th century items. Also the garden was set out as it would be in the 18th century with herbs and aromatic plants. The guide who told me the whole history of the place was also dressed in 18th century clothes.
זה מקום נחמד וקטן וכל הרהיטים הם אותנטיים מהמאה ה-18. גם הגינה מסודרת כמו שהיא הייתה מסודרת במאה ה-18 עם תבלינים וצמחים ריחניים. המדריך שסיפר לי את היסטוריית המקום היה לבוש גם בבגדים מהמאה ה-18.

From the Fitzroy Gardens I continued southwards to the MCG, homeground of the best footy club in the world (Collingwood of course)!
מגני פיצרוי המשכתי דרומה אל האמ.סי.ג'י, איצטדיון הבית של קבוצת הפוטבול הטובה בעולם (קולינגווד)!

I then walked along the Yarra back to the tram station and I saw the avenue that Melbourne deserves, not the one it needs right now.
אז הלכתי חזרה אל תחנת הרכבת לאורך הנהר וראיתי את השדרה של באטמן.

Then I saw a crested pigeon next to the Yarra.
ואז ראיתי גם יונה מצויצת ליד הנהר.

Then I went back to my uncle's house in time for shabbat.
