Road Trip - טיול ברכב

"Sometimes the most scenic roads in life are the detours you didn't mean to take"

We hired a bomb car for a dirt-cheap price and took a road trip from Melbourne down to the Great Ocean Road. Instead of going the regular way along the coast and driving the Great Ocean Road from east to west, we took the most direct route, which was inland through Colac, to the Twelve Apostles. It was a good call as that way was beautiful and we ended up not going twice along the Great Ocean Road.

After being amazed by the beauty of the Twelve Apostles and posing for photos there (including with my Collingwood scarf, and a request by a tourist to be photographed with me and my scarf) we continued eastwards to our sleeping destination of Apollo Bay, stopping at a beautiful lookout named Castle Cove on the way.

Checked in at the hostel, we took the car up to Marriners Lookout which has a stunning view of the bay. Then we left the car by the hostel and took a walk around the beach and got ingredients for a delicious supper, which we cooked in the communal kitchen, helping ourselves to some hot chilli powder from the food trade shelf and leaving there our leftover tomato sauce and cheese.

The next day I woke up by myself at the crack of dawn (literally) and walked down to the beach to see the sunrise, accompanied by rabbits, magpies and galahs. I then went back to sleep for a couple of hours and then we continued driving along the Great Ocean Road until Lorne where we went up to Erskine Falls and walked our first hike of this trip. It was a short 3km hike through the jungle and the scenery was completely different from anything in Israel. We then returned to Melbourne to return the car just before Shabbat.

שכרנו טרנטה של אוטו בזילה-זול ויצאנו לטיול כביש ממלבורן אל דרך האוקיינוס הגדולה. במקום לקחת את הדרך הרגילה לאורך החוף ולנסוע על הכביש ממזרח למערב, לקחנו את המסלול הישיר ביותר, שהיה פנימי מהחוף דרך קולאק, אל שנים-עשר השליחים. זאת הייתה בחירה טובה כי הדרך הייתה יפהפיה וכך גם לא חזרנו על עקבותינו לאורך דרך האוקיינוס הגדולה.

אחרי שהתפעלנו מהיופי של שנים-עשר השליחים והצטלמנו (כולל עם צעיף הקולינגווד שלי, ועם תיירת שרצתה להצטלם איתי ועם הצעיף) נסענו מזרחה למקום הלינה שלנו אפולו ביי, ועצרנו בתצפית מרהיבה בשם קסטל קוב.

רשומים באכסנייה, לקחנו את המכונית לתצפית מרינרס והיה שם נוף מדהים של המפרץ. אז השארנו את המכונית ליד האכסניה והלכנו לאורך החוף וקנינו מצרכים לארוחת ערב טעימה, שבישלנו במטבח המשותף, בו השתמשנו בצ'ילי החריף שהשאירו במדף החלפות והשארנו את שאריות רוטב העגבניות והגבינה שלנו.

למחרת התעוררתי עם שחר והתהלכתי אל החוף לראות את הזריחה, בליווי ארנבים, עקעקים ותוכי-גאלה. אחרי זה חזרתי לישון לשעתיים והמשכנו בנסיעה לאורך דרך האוקיינוס הגדולה עד לורן, שם עלינו אל מפלי ארקסין וטיילנו את המסלול הראשון שלנו. זה היה מסלול קצר של 3 ק"מ דרך ג'ונגל והנוף היה שונה מכל דבר בארץ. אחרי הטיול חזרנו למלבורן להחזיר את הרכב לפני שבת.
